Find DSID studies on the following types of multivitamin/minerals (MVMs): Adult, Children, Prescription Prenatal, and Non-Prescription Prenatal.
We have modified our definition of MVM so that it harmonizes with the Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD) definition and other research in the field. The change will require MVMs to have ≥ 3 vitamins and ≥ 1 mineral (may also include other ingredients). The previous definition was dietary supplement (DS) with ≥ 3 vitamins, with or without minerals (may also include other ingredients). Products in the Adult and Children MVM studies that did not have any minerals were removed from DSID-5, and new statistical analyses were completed. The two prenatal MVM studies were not impacted by this change as all products contained at least one mineral.
The first national study of adult MVMs (DS purchased in 2006-07) estimated the relationship between label values and analytical values for 18 vitamins and minerals.
The second national study of adult MVMs (DS purchased in 2011) estimated the relationship between label values and analytical values for 21 vitamins and minerals.
A national study of children’s MVMs (DS purchased in 2008) estimated the relationship between label values and analytical values for 20 vitamins and minerals.
A national study of non-prescription prenatal MVMs (DS purchased in 2009) estimated the relationship between label and analytical values for 20 vitamins and minerals.
